Helping Homeowners Replace Contaminated Attic Insulation Since 1976
When animals have made your attic their home, the attic insulation is often contaminated and needs remediation. Contaminated and compressed attic insulation reduces energy efficiency and poses serious health hazards. Since 1976, we’ve been resolving human-wildlife conflict across Chicago and the Chicago Suburbs and repairing the damage animals leave behind.
- Bats in the attic damage insulation with their guano
- Raccoons compress and soil insulation
- Mice tunnel through insulation and leave a musty urine odor behind
- Bird colonies contaminate insulation with their guano
- Histoplasmosis is a disease affecting humans that birds and bats leave behind
- Fleas and other ectoparasites infest homes
Animals have their place in nature, not in your house.

What Happens When My Attic Insulation is Contaminated?
When insulation is compressed or packed down by animals that have lived on top of it, contaminated it with their urine and feces, or burrowed underneath it, the insulation needs to be removed entirely and replaced.
Insulation doesn’t always need to be completely replaced after animals have soiled or compressed it. Capping is a process in which only the uppermost layer of insulation is removed and it is replaced with new clean insulation. When only the top layer of insulation is contaminated, and the layers below are not compressed, capping with a fresh layer of insulation is a great option.

Keep Warmer in Winter, Stay Cooler in Summer, Save Thousands of Dollars
Most homes do not meet the current standards for R-value because they don’t have enough insulation. Under-insulated homes are not able to maintain their temperature. This means that your home will feel too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer. Your furnace and air conditioner will have to work harder to make up for energy that escapes from your under-insulated attic, which will shorten their lifespans and increase your energy bills. Over the life of your home, you’ll have wasted thousands of dollars on heating and cooling bills.
We make it easy to have a more comfortable home. Call today to schedule a free inspection and start saving money by ensuring that your home is properly insulated.
What Are the Proper R-Values for Northern Illinois?
Insulation levels are measured as an R-Value. The R-Value is a measure of how well your layer of insulation resists the flow of heat. In Northern Illinois attics should have an R-Value between R49 and R60. Do you know if your home is properly insulated?
ABC Wildlife will inspect your home for free to determine your current insulation levels and advise you on the best way to keep your home comfortable all year.
How to Tell if Your House is Well Insulated
Can you see the floor joists in your attic?
In a properly insulated attic, the floor joists should be completely covered with insulation. If your home’s attic floor joists are visible then your home is definitely under-insulated.
Can you see your shingles after it snows?
If your neighbors have a blanket of snow on their roof while the shingles of your roof are visible, then your home is under-insulated. Heat rises, so as your home loses heat it escapes through the roof and the snow on your roof melts.
Do you get icicles on your house during the winter?
As heat escapes your home, the snow on your roof melts and the water runs down to create an ice dam of icicles that hang off your home. This telltale sign of an under-insulated home is dangerous to walk under because icicles can fall and injure your family, but this hazard can be reduced by keeping the heat inside your home where it belongs with proper insulation.
Still don’t know if your home has enough insulation?
We can help. Call ABC Wildlife today to schedule a free assessment. Our insulation experts will come to your home to evaluate your current insulation levels and develop a plan to ensure your home stops leaking energy and costing you money.
Pest Control Insulation
Insulation makes your home more comfortable by keeping it warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, but it can also help keep your home pest free. Many insect pests, like stink bugs, boxelder bugs, lady bugs, spiders, and silverfish, enter through the attic and find their way into your living spaces. Our pest control insulation is a special type of insulation that controls pests. Designed with natural, non-toxic, boric acid, it works 24/7 to destroy insects by drying them out before they infest your home.
Ecto-Parasite Treatment
Wild animals have parasites such as fleas, ticks, mites, bat bugs, and lice that depend on the blood of warm-blooded animals for survival. Once the animals are removed, their parasites can stay behind and enter your living space. Our ecto-parasite treatment will reduce the risk of these pests infesting your living space.
Enzymatic Odor Control Treatment
ABC Wildlife will apply a liquid enzyme-based formula to eliminate odors that animals leave behind. The treatment will target the odor at its source, breaking it down and leaving a fresh scent.
Attic Insulation Replacement
Attic Insulation Replacement is a complex process designed to remove contaminated harmful insulation and replace it with new clean cellulose. Insulation that has been damaged by animal activity is less energy efficient, and contains many different types of bacteria, parasites, and fungus.
These contaminants can include histoplasmosis, raccoon roundworm, and many other dangerous diseases. Removing this hazardous material is a complicated process that should only be undertaken by trained professionals. Do-it-yourself removal can expose homeowners to diseases. ABC Wildlife insulation replacement professionals are trained in hazardous waste removal and proper insulation techniques.
Protect your property and your health from any wildlife or pests. Our experts are trained to give you peace of mind.
