Bird proofing, especially pigeon removal and control is an issue that presents particular difficulties for many of our commercial clients. Pigeons can present a very difficult problem – one that most businesses are ill-equipped to handle. When called, our expert staff immediately assesses the infestation level of your pigeon presence.

  1. Level one: Pigeons are standing on building ledges.
  2. Level two: Pigeons are sleeping on the property at night.
  3. Level three: A multi-generational pigeon problem. Ledges are ideal pigeon habitat that provide shelter on three sides from wind and rain.

As part of our industry leading commercial bird control services we first inspect the commercial building and identify what level of pigeon and bird problem exists. Next we work with you to create custom designed bird prevention solutions. This can involve installing a variety of bird prevention devices that are customized to solve your individual pigeon or bird problem. Along with installing bird prevention devices we also can safely remediate the hazardous materials the birds leave behind. At the end of the process you will have a building that has aesthetically pleasing products installed that are guaranteed to keep birds out.

Sometimes a combination of methods is the best solution to create lasting exclusion. Structural exclusion is the first step, but humane pigeon repellent may be helpful in prompting a multi-generational pigeon population to finding a new home. That’s why pigeon exclusion is often more complicated than it may initially seem. In fact, the most important component is a deep understanding of the species, its behavior and a combined integrated pest management approach to solving pigeon problems. Our team of pest control operators, structural engineers and state certified biologists can collaborate to design the perfect pigeon exclusion plan for your site.

Pigeon Health Concerns

All problems caused by pigeons and other birds are magnified and exacerbated in a commercial environment because of the business interests of the building owner.

Like many wild animals, Pigeons and their waste are associated with a diverse set of major health problems that affect humans negatively. Pigeon droppings are known carriers of histoplasmosis (also known as “Caver’s Lung” or “Spelunker’s Lung”), cryptococcosis (a potentially fatal lung disease), and psittacosis (Parrot Fever), Salmonella, Avian Flu and West Nile Virus. Pigeons are also carriers of mites, fleas, and ticks, each of which are known carriers of other diseases that harm humans.

Bird Proofing Tools & Solutions

There are many different solutions available for controlling a bird entry and nuisance behavior in and around your business. Here are a just a few of the tools we regularly use to exclude birds from commercial structures.

bird netting

secured bird netting

Bird Netting Secured to Iron Girder

Bird Netting: Commercial bird netting is an extra strong netting material that is available in a variety of colors (to blend in with buildings and other structures). The netting is secured to the building to exclude birds from their favorite perching and nesting locations, forcing them to find a different home.

Bird Spikes: We often secure spikes to ledges and other areas to prevent birds from landing and using commercial structures as perches. Spikes come in a variety of shapes and sizes and often provide an economical, humane and architecturally acceptable solution for apartment buildings and other commercial structures.

Tingle Strips: Sometimes the best solution to prevent birds from roosting, perching and nesting is to deploy a shock strip along the ledges of a building. Shock strips are nearly invisible from street level and are available in a variety of colors to blend in with buildings.

  • Guaranteed bird removal and exclusion

Our trained bird control technicians remove birds and their nests and prevent stress and injury to the birds. This is also a practical and economical approach. What They Say About ABC Humane Wildlife

I arranged for them to install wire screening on 2 sides of a concrete stoop to prevent animals from digging under my porch. (I have used this company in the past to remove animals from other parts of my property. They suggested this proactive work.) They called to remind me several days before their appointment. They came as promised. They did a great job of preserving landscaping gravel on the side before they dug. After digging down approximately 18 inches, they installed wire mesh screening down the 2 sides of the stoop. They then covered the area with the dirt and final layer of landscaping stones. You couldn’t even tell the area had been excavated when they were done!

We had bees crawling under exterior siding through a gap between siding and brick wall and wanted them eliminated. Phil the technician from ABC arrived at the scheduled time. He observed the bees and identified them as yellow jackets. Phil said he could eradicate them with a powder treatment and the bee activity would die down in a couple of days and we would be finished with the problem. Phil said if we still noticed bee activity after 7 days to call ABC and they would come back to re-treat the nest at no charge. It is just 3 days since Phil treated the nest and we have observed zero bee activity. We are very happy with the service and the remedy to our problem.

One by one, they removed a family of nine flying squirrels from our attic. The attic was completely cleaned and sanitized, and new insulation as blown in. All went well. It was easy to make appointments with ABC Humane Wildlife Control, and they were all very profession and prompt with their service. We dealt with many on their staff while trying to catch all the squirrels, and each of the representatives were friendly and helpful. We had some issues with the condition of some of the traps, but that was eventually resolved. They are a very helpful organization and the staff is very knowledgeable.
