How and why did the bat get into my house?
Little and Big Brown Bats are opportunistic mammals that seek cavities resembling caves and other naturally occurring structures. Your attic is a suitable environment that allows safe roosting and potential for overwintering, at which point bats go into a state of torpor. Bats utilize echo location which helps them to identify small gaps that allow entry with pinpoint accuracy. In order to effectively avoid future bat intrusion, all gaps that are 3/8” to 2” wide must be properly sealed after exclusion has been performed.

Bats are federally protected, and we follow all standards put in place by industry leaders such as National Wildlife Control Operators Association and Bat Conservation International. A successful exclusion project must first begin with a thorough inspection of all exterior components that exist on your home. Bat houses can be installed on your home, allowing a secondary option for roosting versus your attic space, although it is not a guaranteed solution or approach. Ultimately, the best course of action to prevent bats from gaining access into your home is sealing potential entries. This process should be performed by a licensed wildlife control technician who is a bat removal specialist.
